According to a recent article in the Anchorage Daily news “a new movement for ‘sustainable buildings’ is gaining momentum in the building industry”. For the new library project the decision to pursue sustainable building design, also called LEED certification, will be considered through the early design process. Creating a building that is efficient to operate and built to last makes sense, and it can also help us attract outside funding. The Homer Public Library, opened last year, was one of the first buildings in Alaska to receive a Silver LEED certification.
